MHF Umpires - "They maybe the best available but are they doing their job properly?"

Dear Sir, I believe the title of the topic hits it right on the nail.

Are the umpires doing their job properly?

To answer that we must look at the mechanism in place to check this. Game evaluation, Match Inspectors, Technical Officers capable of making proper review of matches. Granted there may not be enough $$ to look at Match inspectors but the role of Umpires Manager (UM) come into play in these occasions.

The UM both independently and collectively with the Technical Officer must do joint evaluations with the Umpiring team for the match.

With that mechnism in place we can say ... "Hey Guys, we have dat in place and this is what we are doing! This is the system in place... we have X number of umpire they have done this many games this is their rating. Yeah there are some good and some bad. The only down side to this is people will use this as ammunition against the umpires. Who said it was a fair world!!

Frankly its a dog-eat-dog world out there.

The final piece of this area, is such practice in place and these evaluation forwarded to the Technical Committee that does the appointment in a case by case basis. Then you can justify and fight back against comments and unnecessary remarks.

Integrity & Courage

The very players who harass and protect and do all the things you said wont even dare do it in an international arena. Is it coz they think they can get away with it? Or we are too weak to take action? And if we do take action as an Umpire will they back us up?

We all watch foreign match Umpires makes a good decision, good advantage lauded and applauded at the same time he makes a bad call he is criticized. Whats the beauty in this is they have the courage and integrity to say they are Right or they were Wrong.

Time and time again we have seen heard Umpires being made scapegoats and at the receiving end of brickbats. They get whacked by both sides and have little or no room to hit back. They bound by the Code of Conduct that they and the teams sign and yet surprisingly the Teams are not taken to task should they breach it but every ready to use it against a match official.

Dog-eat-dog world

I struggle to recall the last time i read in a by line or heard or seen in an interview "The Umpire had a good game." You will never hear these 5 words.

Lets look on the flip side, the player made and pass, a clumsy tackle, the keeper making a silly mistake you dun find the Teasm blaming them out right. We got to have the courage to call a spade a spade. Until that time its a dog-eat-doe out world there

Thank you Sir for allowing me to comment as I will be adding this to my blog as well.

Personally, we dun have short term and long term objectives, we don't have a proper foundation... if anyone if expecting instant result I am truly sorry. Having a national coach is not only handling the national team but looking at the feeder system and and bottom to top review of the playing, managing and development infrastructure in the country.

If you are not prepared to do that or allowed to do that we.. no point isnt it.

The finish Line

"We shall neither fail nor falter; we shall not weaken or tire...give us the tools and we will finish the job.” - Winston Churchill

There is gonna be a lot of 'I' in this blog lol.

I not blogged in a long time hectic schedule, tired, managing situation and I look back on that faithful April Sunday thinking what if I had not accept the responsibility to stand up and say "Ok, I will accept the nomination for VP"

When I reflect on that, I come up with a blank answer. I really do not know what I would have been doing. Maybe a different path.

When I walked away from the national federation bout 4 years ago not because of a technicality but people were more interested in safe guarding their own respective seat and worried bout changes for the improvement of hockey especially administration. When I presented working papers on budgets and admin budget and webpages it was as if a ticking bomb had landed and the who herd has ran away. No problem you don't like it fine by me coz you don't know what you losing.

National loss and stage gain...

My first meeting with my Deputy President we talked and talked idea, vision, philosophy and more importantly goals and objectives both short term and long term. We were in a way both new to Selangor Hockey we both just got elected.

We did not shy away from the current problems we faced the mountains we had climbed but since that fateful evening chat we HAVE NEVER looked back.

Today marks the finish line of 2009. Tournaments after tournaments completed. When I say completed I mean completed. Payments made, files recorded, assets recorded.

Today marks the 103rd game in the league, the finals the last game, the crowning achievement...

Well done Vadai & Team

Selangor Hockey League in the Malay Mail (web) TODAY!!!!

Three-horse race down to the wire

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 06:01:00

KUALA LUMPUR: After almost two months of competition, the Division One of the Selangor Hockey League will see a race down to the wire when it concludes this weekend. All the top three teams - JLJ, RAMD, UiTM - have an equal chance of landing the title.

But the favourites at the moment are UiTM, who are in buoyant mood after puttting themselves in the driver's seat with a clinical 5-2 win over OLAK last week. The Technical Committee cleared OLAK player Nur Hrsikesa Murni to return to face UiTm but it was not enough to help the former champions keep up with the fiery title challengers.

With their latest loss, OLAK are out of the contention. UiTM can clinch the title if they do not drop points in the final two matches against Selangor Sikh & Selangor Polis. Should UiTM falter, then RAMD will need only a win against OLAK on Thursday night to steal the title away.

The quarterfinals will be played on Dec 8 & 9 and the semifinals on Dec 15 & 16, while the final is slated for Dec 20. Meanwhile, in the Division Two RAMD Juniors were crowned champions last weekend without even having to break a drop of sweat.

Their nearest nemesis, SIA, faltered as they fell to an unexpected defeat to Synergy to see their titles hopes go up in smoke and disappear right before their eyes.

SIA needed a win to keep up pressure on table toppers RAMD Juniors but they fell behind as early as the third minute as Synergy’s S. Kumaresan finished off a scintillating move to give Synergy the lead. SIA fought back but Synergy goalkeeper Muhammad Fareez Farid was in top form as he foiled every shot that looked a sure goal.

To rub salt to the wound, Synergy increased their lead in the 17th minute via a penalty corner converted by Ashvinderjeet Singh. SIA gave themselves some hope of salvaging something when they pulled one back through Abdul Rasyid Ridzwan ten minutes before half-time.

But instead, Synergy went into the interval 3-1 up with a penalty corner conversion by Manpreet Singh in the 33rd minute. Ironically, it was the birthday boy Kumaresan who killed off the game when he grabbed his brace by hammering the fourth goal in the dying minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Trophies has landed

One of the biggest challenges in a league is consistency. Almost like running a marathon you stick to the pace, the rhythm despite attempts by people to destabilize, to challenge, to have envy is all norm we jsut got to live with it and move on forward

We pick battles we can fight and WIN we deflect situation that are not worth of a fight.

Today I can see the finish line but we must not let our slack down, it is at these times we must be stronger, work harder and smarter.

What we have achieved up to now wont mean a thing if we do not reach the finish line.. all the good press coveraged form Malay Mail and The Star, the support from sponsors like Mercian & Milo, the support from state bodies like MSN, MPK and most importantly the hard work of the guys on the field.... wont mean a thing if we drop.

I was so motivated to have the challenge trophy in place today. 69 cm tall. Yes 69 cm

Selangor Hockey League: SIA make it to the top

Selangor Hockey League: SIA make it to the top

This press coverage is a result of hard work put in by people who love the game. No politics not cliques. Good hard work

Well done guys

Half Way Mark - Hockey League

Well we have reached the halfway mark of the league on the Nov 5th weekend, as we were paying the allowances I decided to write a note to all the officials..

I am a hard headed SOB if I wanna be and I am driven to achieve goals and targets. We have a lot riding on this league, confidence, credibility, respect, point to prove and unfortunately there are more people within the organization who rather see you fall them make them selves look good.

It does not take much to roll you sleeves and walk into the field and help out instead of being present for photo taking opportunities. I am blessed coz the No 2 shares the same mentality with me and is equally driven. At the same time we have to ask question what about the rest at the top> Any one want to turn padang?

All this I shield and deflect from the people running the show.

What I am proud of it is not alone man show, there is an equally hard, responsible team and there is dedication. Being where we are doing what we doing after a long lapse take a lot out of you. It takes a lot out of me in all aspect but I am determined to see the finish line at the set date of DeC 20th. Come Dec 20th you will hear the name of this league

Back to the note . Why the note you asked? - Like is said I been driving the official hard, strict stern and making them toe the line coz all it takes is one screw up to bring bad publicity. I always told them people dun remember good things they read in the press but they will remember bad things they read for along time.

Work hard Play hard... not like I could take them out to a beer and show my appreciation so I wrote them a letter in my capacity and personally thank each and everyone and motivate them for the remainder of the league
