A GREAT LADY - WORLD CHAMPION


A couple of blog ago I highlighted this lady and again she deserves nothing but accolades....but I will not limit it to her alone but her parents as well.....in an age where pampered malaysian sports people are more intent in securing sponsorship and money based performance ...take time to read... when idiots who dun know about sports....commented when she was in a slump...here look at her acheivement.... uproot from her crib to be based in Europe to achieve her goal.... she has won championships after championships and she is 22.



Nicol Ann David is a Malaysian squash player. She is officially World Number 1 in women's squash, and is the current (as of 2005) British Open champion. She was the first Asian woman to win the Open. She is also the only squash player to have won the World Junior title twice. David has been training in the Netherlands city of Amsterdam since she was 18, when she finished her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, scoring 9As. David's other titles include the Asian squash championship, which she won four times (in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004).On 4 December 2005, she beat Rachel Grinham from Australia to become the youngest world champion.

Nicol wins in Hong Kong and goes to the top

The victory is expected to push her ranking to World No. 1 when the new list comes out in January.—STARpic by KAMAL SELLEHUDDIN Malaysia's Nicol David capped a superb year-long run in squash by bagging the prestigious title in the World Squash Open championship in Hong Kong yesterday.
The 22-year-old lass, currently ranked third in the world, was in devastating form as she powered to 8-10, 9-2, 9-6, 9-7 win over world No. 2 Aussie Rachael Grinham to emerge as the first Malaysian, first Asian and the youngest woman world squash champion.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said: “I am very proud of Nicol's achievements.”
“Her excellent performance has elevated her to a sportsperson of distinction. Others should emulate her,” he said.
Abdullah is also pleased that the Malaysian SEA Games contingent in Manila has surpassed its 55 gold medal target. Malaysia has 61 gold medals so far.
