yin and yang

"The thing that separates humans from all other animals is our ability to view the world in the past, present and future. This ability allows us to learn from our past mistakes, progress in the present and imagine the future. I dont know of any other animal that thinks about tomorrow."

The come back to that would be we are the only animal that kills our own lol

there goes my thumb@!!

well well age is catching I think or I am not taking care of my self like I should... I have got De Quervain's tenosynovitis aka washerwoman's sprain, is a painful wrist condition involving two of the tendons at the wrist - the thumb extensors called Extensor pollicus brevis and abductor pollicus longus at the base of the thumb. - A common cause today in the technology age is typing on handheld devices, which has led to the condition being dubbed "Blackberry Thumb"

Being Critical

Anton Ego: In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends...

I am critical not a bitch or a bastard but I ask the question that need to be asked and if it makes me unpopular so be it.

I love sports, I love my friends and I love my son to each I have a degree of leniency and bending over to accept. We live our lives by principals, goals, rules and what ever that makes us sleep peacefully at night.

I am entrusted to a position that required my to perform in sports, no salary but I do it for the love of the game. I always said look I am here for two years, as long I am here for two years , I will kick butt and do my job even if it mean stepping on kiss asses and seat warmers. I am proud to say I fought and I have done so. I am not afraid to be critical and not afraid of accepting critism just look me in my eye and say it to my face.

I am surprised that other sports have looked at me and my capabilities and invited me to come over to help them.. its a bridge I think of crossing, no matter what the repercussion coz I leave it all on the table. I always tell them my services are free just match the "burning desire" I bring to it even if it only 50%

My friends, I welcome all as my friends, I dun judge by race, creed and especially the size of their wallets, people have come and gone in my life, I say its their loss coz I am true to my friends and I work extra hard at keeping friendship alive.... Its a knife that cuts both ways still for a friend I will help asking nothing in return. I do not pretend to be someone else what you see is what you get its just a matter of acceptance instead of pretending to be a friend

My son.. what can I say, he is my 'kwan' managing a growing kid with the present circumstance is never easy, its more draining at the same time rewarding then any other relationship i have been in, being pulled in 10 different direction at once and then he smiles...

Shamans Harvest feat. Downstait - Broken Dreams (Drew McIntyre´s Theme)

Cruel as it seems you never hear the SHOT that takes you down.

When you get shot like that it least expected it hurts

What’s that metronome I hear, perhaps the end is drawing near
You never hear the shot that takes you down
Now your dream’s a memory, and seems more true from far away
Just like smoke that fades and makes no sound
Out of time, so say goodbye

What was yours, now is mine
I dream broken dreams, I make them come true
I make them for you
I make them for you

Almost to the mountain top, you slip and fall just like a stone
Rolling ever faster to this nightmare you have sown
You had it all right in your grasp, but in a breath your minute passed
Now, at last, the end has come, you are all alone

Out of time, so say goodbye
What was yours, now is mine
I dream broken dreams, I make them come true
I make them for you
I make them for you

All your dreams are just illusion
Based on nothing and confusion
Don’t you look behind the curtain
No more time, the end is certain

Holding out for something you had dreamt about for years and years
Each day thinking tomorrow was the one
A train somewhere is off it’s tracks, it’s whistle blows, it wants life back
And echoes through a night of setting suns

Out of time, so say goodbye
The dream was yours, but now is mine

I dream broken dreams, I make them come true
I make them for you
I make them for you

Selangor U-16 - We did it

As Hiro Nakamura would say

YATTA!!!

“All that's necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing.” Edmund Burke (1729-01-121797-07-09) was an Irish political philosopher, Whig politician, and statesman; he is regarded by many as the "father" of modern conservatism.

Following up to my previous blog http://darthvadai.blogspot.com/2010/03/hockey-better-devil-you-know-than-devil.html where I spoke about the frustration of people not wanting to help and more over people wanting to sabotage.
I was delighted that the Selangor Under 16 team achieved its primary target.
For a team what finished 8th in 2008, did not qualify for the semis at 2009 it is a great achievement to get to where we are.

We play Perak in the semis a power house, whatever the result it be a bonus for not we are satisfied with this

The people who did nothing I sure hope they dun show up in the batiks and coats when I toast to this team. It is time people realize you can be part of a system that's trying to move froward and do nothing.

Hockey : 'better the devil you know than the devil you don't'

Basically it means that it is often better to deal with someone or something you are familiar with and know, even if they are not ideal, than take a risk with an unknown person or thing.

In any organization people need to step up, step forward, its not easy trying to find people who can do the job. People are afraid for committing and where I come from, I am saddled with various kind of people. There are people who are representatives, elected or appointed to administer the affairs. Each and everyone practically have a family to run, a house to feed, a job to do and up and above that a commitment to perform to the position we are elected to or appointed to or in the worse case scenario appointed to.

When there is a dereliction of that duty, you get 3 kinds of people
i) the "huh" what happen
ii) the "yes ah" then then then
iii) Not my problem

So I work with the angles and devils, measure what need to be done and in 10 days we put together a package, a team, with the budgets, equipment, selection, coaches the whole works and sent them to a tournament. With it the hopes of the 2 people left behind who worked their heart out to ensure they got to their destination and a silent prayer to reach their target. A semifinal appearance.

I will tell you who was the team was on the ground, one private sector person, one school teacher with a love for the game, a pair of coaches who worked thru the difficulties and 2 other teachers who had the courage to step into the vacant seats of the Manager & Asst. Manager and take the team there.

I mean lets weigh the facts , a state team is going for a National Tournament, no one is bothered to prepare a team, to set team up, to call players to come. So when I and my team of rag tag bunch of people who want to see a team participate got them there.

Countless day and nights working with the national body for the players flight tickets, the state sports council preparing budgets lobbying, gaining their trust and belief. Each step was systematically document and a lot of the dirty tricks pulled against us was shielded away from the Team. They could ill afford the distraction

The people I worked with had good and bad but we focused on what was the overall goal. It was not easy to get to where we are not, we had people withing the organization working against us, not to bitch about them but I rather have them in my face then to do it from the confines of mouse hole.

We are not an rich organization we are managing our debts but when the people your own organization lobby not to give the facilities to train the team and having to fork out cash from your own pocket to ensure players get the entry into the stadium to train leads me to a war path.

At least the devils I had with me could work and get the job done.

I was laughed at when I said the target of the team was the semifinals, but you dont just pluck those figures from thin air... Having failed to qualify for the semifinals in 2009 and further marred by misconduct by officials and in 2008 we finished a poor 8th position. A semifinals position is a lot to shout about by my Team.

http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2010/3/11/central/5816361&sec=central

In 24 hours, we stand on the threshold of an opportunity to qualify for the semifinals of an age group tournament that we have failed to qualify. We have done all the right thing. We lot to the last year champions 2-1. We drew with the 3rd places team from last year. Both these team utilized sport school boys from their respective states. We won the rest of the round robbin.

We stand at 13 points out of 6 games, a + 11 goal difference and await the outcome of a last league game where the 3rd placed team from last year MUST win by a 6 goal margin and if they fail to do so I be dancing!!!

We shall know in 24 hours

Recovery

Well I have been ill... nothing life threatening but and energy sapping, numbing viral fever and with that strain and what not that has been happening with the reorganization at work and battles in Hockey especially in the way we operate and conduct ourselves and the icing on the cake my "jalopy" not available till the 20th has left me tight, tensed and lack of time to blog.

I also been distracted by my posting in my facebook page.

My birthday came and went and a decade is gone you tend to realize as the years go by you still are fighting to be better each day, stronger, and morally right.

I had a great time taking Junior Vadai to Aquaria and we had lots of fun there

MHL - my two cents

Its never an easy task doing what they in MHL is doing. not many months ago I walked along similar lines trying to do the same. Its never an easy mountain to climb, getting teams, publicity, press releases its a thankless job to the finish line. As I sat in the usual corner watching some of the matches I notice two things

1. People trying to work and make something happen
2. People trying to find fault with every single attempt

Congratulations are in order to the team that ran MHL. They dare to break out of the mold and try new things, new directions in the face of challenges and criticism and the possibility of mistakes that may happen. Its a huge.. HUGE step form the same old dour year to year league.

Public perception of the sport, of the league are not going to change in one season, but it lifted it up a notch. The national team being where they are aint gonna be helpful. Every sport popularity depends on the success of the national team. We do not have to look any futher then national soccer team is a prime example, what they U23 team did galvanized the sport over the short term. Suddenly everyone is talking about it.

When is the last time we saw hockey... local hockey on Astro. When was the last time you saw hockey in your home town (if you are outside of KL) ? Along side this "out of kl" roadshow there was a lot of side line activities for development. Yes, TNB was a catalyst to this.

For the teams, as I read the morning paper there were accolades and brickbats but a few comments stood out. Tenaga coach Manjit Singh attributed their success to the way “we take care of our players’ welfare”. A crucial statement that is sorely lacking in hockey these days. Teams like Maybank, Tenaga and others likes them part of the CSR and love for the game have continues year in and year out to build on this. Other corporate organization , like Pos Malaysia, PKNS, Petronas and other large organization must be encouraged along the same lines.

State affiliates have also contributed to the decline ofthe National League. The failure to have a simple league. May be the MHF should look at arm twisting, encouraging, demanding what ever the lingo maybe for state to have a league. Of course money is always the issue, but it does not mean we stop playing, the affiliates do not realize the domino effect they are apart of that has lead to the decline of the hockey in this country.

While there are complaints and cries and all what not I have yet to see a state come up to the plate and say, HELP US. All it takes is for each state to run a league, complete one, then move on to the next and the next over the long term over a synchronized calendar both locally and nationals you have success knocking on your door. Soon these teams will graduate to the bigger playing platform.

When people do not play, when there is no playing opportunity we will fail and trust me we are not far from that.

To the MHL Team, this is you moment in the sun, bask in its glory, but please have a book called lesson learned so you can write in them and move forward.

Well done

Snow Patrol - Just Say Yes

Sometimes you only need to say YES

New Super Bowl Champs

gosh the amount of stories they gonna write about this one

Saints win Super Bowl XLIV 31 - 17!!!

For the Record I am an New York Giants fan

Superbowl XLIV between the Saints and Colts
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-previews/09000d5d8160ce32/Super-Bowl-XLIV-preview

In the end .."This is one of the beautiful things about sports. They just won't p lay out like you expect. This game was supposed to be a high-scoring free-for-all. This game was supposed to go to Indianapolis ... especially after they took the 10-0 early lead. This game was supposed to come down to the brilliance of Peyton Manning. And instead, the Saints came up with a gutsy game plan, a tough defensive scheme, and a huge interception of Peyton Manning himself. It's a great win for the Saints and the city of New Orleans."

In summary the chant from the Saints

“Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints”.

his win is not for me. It's for the city of New Orleans, the state of Lousiana, the fans that lined the roads after every game cheering on the team. This is a win for heart, emotion, and comebacks. The comeback city of America is New Orleans. Honestly, there are no losers in this game. But in this Super Bowl, this trophy, this title, mean s so much more than just words and a metal block. Cue music. End scene.

WHO DAT?

Final score: Colts 17 - 31 Saints

Never underestimate the power of emotion... and talent.

MIAMI -- Who are 'dese Super Bowl champions?

A team that spent most of their 43 years of existence as consummate losers and were almost driven out of New Orleans forever by a hurricane that had the owner looking for new homes from San Antonio to Los Angeles.

Meet Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, who lit up their city and most of the nation with a 31-17 upset Sunday of the Indianapolis Colts.

New Orleans Saints - Super Bowl XLIV

The New Orleans Saints will make their first Super Bowl appearance in club history. A city devastated by Kattrina only 5 years ago, a team without a winning season except for the last few years.

A team that no one expected to reach the finals. The Underdog. A city still recovering from Katrina coming together hoping their club will win the Super Bowl XLIV

Hockey - Rules we have to live by ( and some)

I am not a Hockey critic but a hockey supporter. I rarely blog bout hockey but over the week I had an interesting chat with someone only bout hockey and I was not afraid about being quoted.

Whats are the failures of hockey? Structure - People - Planing. I dont even plan to start don't even start on funding coz its immaterial, without that 3 might as well not talk about it.

At any point in any organization at any given time there are weakness bout structural and people. Structural can be changed, modified and strengthen but people?? There will never be a fool proof situation. What is needed is a simple understanding of our limitations, our strengths and working your way forward. What is is needs in a business like thinking? What the drawback is everyone is thinking that's their way forward?

In most business from time to time (putting aside your budget meetings), the management, senior management gather together, where the CEO or MD or President outlines his goals get fedback and comes out with a general plan for Hockey. You dun need to do it in a 5 star hotel or a RM500 bucks a day meetign room. With the progression made on communication just emails should suffice.

Simple Agenda
1. The year we had
2. The year we wanna have.
3. This is our short term goal (2 years while we are in office)
4. This is our long term plan (3-5 years no matter we are re-elected or not)

Any any Chairperson of a subcommittee in a National or State level if they actually have a plan? A goal? A target? Its still not too late. While some may say flash words as KPI, let be bold to keep it short and simple KISS.

Once you have defined the overall objective it merely needs watering down and brain storming at the respective levels and a PLAN to reach the over all objective. Simple?

Yes it is simple, provided you have people who realise they are answerable to the position they occupy and the people they are answerable to have the gut and conviction to make changes. In the business world there is no room for slack. I work in an environment, if you do not perform chances are given, reviews are done but if you just not good enough you are shown the door. Granted that Hockey is not a money making sport and your appointment letter does not indicate a salary bracket. Hockey is still an organization, as long you have the courage and conviction you are game on.

My opening line in this thread I spoke about weakness both structural and people. If you look at the structure of hockey both male and female especially at state levels is at shambles. Poor organization set-up, old rules and consitution certain branches only come alive during SUKMA to organize.. Why? $$$$

People are afraid of change, but in actual fact if you are good in what you do, why be afraid. Any change that comes with proper planning is always welcome. When the constitution of the National Hockey Body was revamped it was in the promise that a top to bottom structure was in place. Prior to this only, a select number of reps sat in committees. Affiliated clamored for change, wanting voice.

Then was voice given to affiliates, with representatives from states allowed to sit in all committees. It gave the voice. Having the opportunity to voice out your state plans, participate in National level decisions is a gift. Today it does not seem so. The very people who approved the changes are the same very people who criticize that. The language has not changed, so why has sub-committees failed?

Its failed when States do not the nominate the right people to the right committees. It failed because the the Chairpersons appointed does not have an agreed plan. The bottom line is it fails because no one cracks the WHIP.

In Response to an article in a blog of a Friend

Voice-in-Sports

MHF Umpires - "They maybe the best available but are they doing their job properly?"

Dear Sir, I believe the title of the topic hits it right on the nail.

Are the umpires doing their job properly?

To answer that we must look at the mechanism in place to check this. Game evaluation, Match Inspectors, Technical Officers capable of making proper review of matches. Granted there may not be enough $$ to look at Match inspectors but the role of Umpires Manager (UM) come into play in these occasions.

The UM both independently and collectively with the Technical Officer must do joint evaluations with the Umpiring team for the match.

With that mechnism in place we can say ... "Hey Guys, we have dat in place and this is what we are doing! This is the system in place... we have X number of umpire they have done this many games this is their rating. Yeah there are some good and some bad. The only down side to this is people will use this as ammunition against the umpires. Who said it was a fair world!!

Frankly its a dog-eat-dog world out there.

The final piece of this area, is such practice in place and these evaluation forwarded to the Technical Committee that does the appointment in a case by case basis. Then you can justify and fight back against comments and unnecessary remarks.

Integrity & Courage

The very players who harass and protect and do all the things you said wont even dare do it in an international arena. Is it coz they think they can get away with it? Or we are too weak to take action? And if we do take action as an Umpire will they back us up?

We all watch foreign match Umpires makes a good decision, good advantage lauded and applauded at the same time he makes a bad call he is criticized. Whats the beauty in this is they have the courage and integrity to say they are Right or they were Wrong.

Time and time again we have seen heard Umpires being made scapegoats and at the receiving end of brickbats. They get whacked by both sides and have little or no room to hit back. They bound by the Code of Conduct that they and the teams sign and yet surprisingly the Teams are not taken to task should they breach it but every ready to use it against a match official.

Dog-eat-dog world

I struggle to recall the last time i read in a by line or heard or seen in an interview "The Umpire had a good game." You will never hear these 5 words.

Lets look on the flip side, the player made and pass, a clumsy tackle, the keeper making a silly mistake you dun find the Teasm blaming them out right. We got to have the courage to call a spade a spade. Until that time its a dog-eat-doe out world there

Thank you Sir for allowing me to comment as I will be adding this to my blog as well.

-------------------

Personally, we dun have short term and long term objectives, we don't have a proper foundation... if anyone if expecting instant result I am truly sorry. Having a national coach is not only handling the national team but looking at the feeder system and and bottom to top review of the playing, managing and development infrastructure in the country.

If you are not prepared to do that or allowed to do that we.. no point isnt it.
