Almost a month ago Commie feeling a little guilty, grabbed me from Klang for a drink in this pub in PJ. Him, me, Vermicelli soup and her fren, his the place together. Arriving late, ended up sitting alone till the 3 arrived with a bottle. The band is worth checking out coz it a pair of guys singing song made before they were even born and they did a great job at it.

It was worth it and gave them a lift back.

Merdeka Coming Up

The country will be celebrating its 50th year of independence

Vadai will be celebrating his 2nd anniversary of the blog with over 1000 posts

As usually over the holidays we got the flag out to hang

i used to remember the days we used to read the rukun negara at the weekly assembly and read it out loud, dun think they do it do that?

PM for 8 days

Not Prime Minister but Project Manager.

Here is the scenario..... you back at work 1st day after a nice vacation....... A project they been working for weeks on a project, its on its off its shelved and gathering dust on the shelf.... Then your boss calls you in and asks you how was the holiday then tells you the senior vice president of a major O&G company was just on the phone chewing him out, and he wants the project done yesterday. Now whwere have I heard that.

So Super Vadai was handed a project to be turned around and executed and working in 8days. Fuck shit.

The project to set up a project office from bare. This will include wet works, partitioning, carpeting, electrical, aircond, telekom, streamyx, furniture, PABX and data cabeling. Also extinguisher, scanner, copier, fax etc etc arrgghhhhh

The kicker is on working days you can start noisy work like hacking and drilling after 6pm only, as if the odds were not enough

So this is a hands on day and night project management, with strict timelines and non affordable delays has landed on my lap, Its gonna be filled with stubborn bugs and bumps that never seemed to go away, and too many late nights of coffee and pizza and not a drop of beer.

You can do it

Cute aint he

Feel Great to be back

After an unrecorded official training of 1 week I got back to work with welcoming smiling faces and a pile of paperwork on my head and countless emails.

Having been out of touch via emails (did not take laptop) and to a certain extent I did not on my phone for a while, it was indeed refreshing, lovely and well deserved. I got to kick back spend some time alone and also with the jnr

My journey began from the office to the Jazz festival to Port Klang to Seremban, to Melaka, to Seremban, to Port Klang, to Awana Kijal, to Genting Highlands, to Tamarind Condo (Sentul) to Port Klang, to Purtajaya and etc etc etc in this worldwind trip I had the luxury of using public transport mostly and sit by the sea, by the lake, breakfast at the highlands, fireworks, jazz music hubba hubba

Now its back to work

LEX TALIONIS

lex talionis (leks tal-ee-O-nis) noun

The law of retaliation that the punishment should correspond to the crime, as an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Also called talion.

[From Latin, lex (law) + talionis (retaliation).]

Words to Live by & M Back!!!

The Rabbi: The unlucky are nothing more than a frame of reference for the lucky. You are unlucky, so I may know that I am. Unfortunately the lucky never realizes they are lucky until it's too late. Take yourself for instance; yesterday you were better off than you are off today but it took today for you to realize it. But today has arrived and it's too late. You see? People are never happy with what they have. They want what they had, or what others have. The grass is always greener on the other side.

A movie worth Downloading

The Astronaut Farmer

When I was in Summit the other day surfing for movies I cought the preview of some movies coming to DVD. One movie that caught me and intrigued me and kind of captivated me thru the trailer was The Astronaut Farmer.

I dun think this movie is played yet in our circuit, but its a damm feel good movie. So I torrent downloaded it and last night past midnight I finally watched it.

Sat down at 1am and never left my seat. Awesome family movie.

Wiki : The Astronaut Farmer is a 2007 drama film directed by Michael Polish and starring Billy Bob Thornton. Polish and his brother Mark also serve as writers and producers of the film. The film was released on February 23, 2007.

In a gist it about A NASA astronaut (Thornton), forced to retire years earlier so he could save his family farm, has never give up his dream of space travel and looks to build his own rocket, despite the government's threats to stop him. Billy Bob and Virginia Madsen (hubba hubba) do awesome jobs with their characters.Bruce Willis has a small role as the best friend from the astronaut program who *did* make it into space, and JK Simmmons (Jonah Jameson) is good as the head of the FAA.

Admittedly, the follow your dreams drama kind of movie has always been around, but Astronaut Farmer manages to stand out nonetheless. The timeless truths are all the more poignant set against the backdrop of such an impossible dream. The problems Charlie Farmer confronts are in many ways similar to problems we all face. Themes of love, sacrifice, and faith make this movie easy to relate to. It is a metaphor of being true to yourself and following your dreams, not just another sappy you-can-do-anything-you-set-your-mind-to knockoff. I recommend it to anyone who has ever wanted something out of life that seemed out of reach or that others scoffed at.

Go go get it and watch it

How true

History is often be written from the eyes of the victors.

From the mouth of another blogger part 2

I feel like being incommunicado for a while. Like a disciple in a desert, or in monk on retreat.I feel like turning off email, the phone, and the cel phone and just spending some time apart from the world for a moment. I feel like I want to get off this ride for a bit.I’m going to take a few days off from this site as I recharge some batteries and take care of the little things that need to get done.

From the mouth of another blogger

In a world of email, Cell Phones, IM, SMS, and Blackberries its becoming exceedingly hard to avoid being reachable. There's always a sense of guilt associated with turning off the means of communication in your possession, and with the speed of how technology is moving this will continue to get worse.

For the last 6 months I've carried a Blackberry which is a pretty nifty toy, but what I noticed was that I've grown pretty used to constantly reaching whenever my device vibrates or rings signaling the arrival of new email, SMS, or voice call! Ignoring it exceedingly became a psychological challenge and I always felt unjustifiably pressured to respond to every form of communication I received. This included chatting with friends on Yahoo and Google while I was driving!

With this form of constant communication people around you expect you to be reachable 24/7. They also expect that you will respond to any thing they perceive as urgent regardless if it really is an emergency or not. They also get annoyed, dismayed, and outright hostile when they can't reach you! After all, they reason, aren't you carrying a Blackberry?

This is why I decided last week to kill the Blackberry! While I think it was really convenient and fun sometimes; it certainly came at a price I couldn't pay. That price was the eradication of the border between my personal and professional life, which is something I couldn't live with.

The funny thing is that people adapt pretty quickly. Now that everyone around me knows that I'm "Blackberryless" their expectations were very quickly adjusted and suddenly my life became a lot more enjoyable.

I can now:

- Enjoy my weekends and nights again.

- Check email only when I want to, as opposed to email "breaking & entering on my life"

- Be more attentive to people when they talk to me because I no longer have to continuously look at my device during conversations.

- Have a better chance of reaching home in one piece since I no longer chat & respond to email while driving.

- Have credible deniability when something goes wrong at work while I'm away! (grin)...

These are benefits of being Incommunicado and boy are they worth it....

The racial card

In office management politics of the racial kind are the most difficult and the vicious to get affected. Especially if your the minority. Right not the lower end people are playing this card and it come to my attention. Does it affect me , fucking yes being the minority.

When you have so called educated people, graduates, who choose to go below the belt just because they cant conform to policy and rules that are set by an Indian? Policy that are endorsed by management?

All the fella who sit down at the mamak shop and talk this crap dun have the balls to say it to my face.

At crossroads if I should raise this crap to the MD, lets see how things play out? He dun need this bullshit at this point.,

The life and times of David Gale

leaving this up for a while

David Gale: We spend our whole life trying to stop death. Eating, inventing, loving, praying, fighting, killing. But what do we really know about death? Just that nobody comes back. Then there comes a point - a moment - in life when your mind outlives its desires, its obsessions, when your habits survive your dreams, and when your losses... Maybe death is a gift. You wonder. All I can tell you is that by this time tomorrow I'll be dead. I know when. I just cannot say why. You have 24 hours to find out.

What is it that you fantasize about?

Lacan's point. Fantasies have to be unrealistic because the moment - the second - that you get what you seek - you dont - you cant want it anymore. In order to continue to exist, desire must have its objects perpetually absent. Its not the 'it' that you want. It's the fantasy of 'it' . So desire supports crazy fantasies

This is what Pascal mean when he says that we are only truly happy when daydreaming about future happiness, or why we say the hunt is sweeter then the kill. Or becareful what you wish for, not because you will get it, because you're doomed not to want it once you do

So the lesson of Lacan is, living by your wants will never make you happy. What it means to be fully human is to strive to live by ideas and ideals, and not to measure your life by what you have attained in terms of your desires, but those small moments of integrity, compassion, rationality, even self sacrifice.

Because in the end, the only way we can measure the significance of our own lives is be valueing the lives of others

My latest poison

Expectorant: A medication that helps bring up mucus and other material from the lungs, bronchi, and trachea. An example of as expectorant is guaifenesin which promotes drainage of mucus from the lungs by thinning the mucus and also lubricates the irritated respiratory tract. Sometimes the term "expectorant" is incorrectly extended to any cough medicine.
