The finish Line

"We shall neither fail nor falter; we shall not weaken or tire...give us the tools and we will finish the job.” - Winston Churchill

There is gonna be a lot of 'I' in this blog lol.

I not blogged in a long time hectic schedule, tired, managing situation and I look back on that faithful April Sunday thinking what if I had not accept the responsibility to stand up and say "Ok, I will accept the nomination for VP"

When I reflect on that, I come up with a blank answer. I really do not know what I would have been doing. Maybe a different path.

When I walked away from the national federation bout 4 years ago not because of a technicality but people were more interested in safe guarding their own respective seat and worried bout changes for the improvement of hockey especially administration. When I presented working papers on budgets and admin budget and webpages it was as if a ticking bomb had landed and the who herd has ran away. No problem you don't like it fine by me coz you don't know what you losing.

National loss and stage gain...

My first meeting with my Deputy President we talked and talked idea, vision, philosophy and more importantly goals and objectives both short term and long term. We were in a way both new to Selangor Hockey we both just got elected.

We did not shy away from the current problems we faced the mountains we had climbed but since that fateful evening chat we HAVE NEVER looked back.

Today marks the finish line of 2009. Tournaments after tournaments completed. When I say completed I mean completed. Payments made, files recorded, assets recorded.

Today marks the 103rd game in the league, the finals the last game, the crowning achievement...

Well done Vadai & Team

Selangor Hockey League in the Malay Mail (web) TODAY!!!!

Three-horse race down to the wire

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 06:01:00

KUALA LUMPUR: After almost two months of competition, the Division One of the Selangor Hockey League will see a race down to the wire when it concludes this weekend. All the top three teams - JLJ, RAMD, UiTM - have an equal chance of landing the title.

But the favourites at the moment are UiTM, who are in buoyant mood after puttting themselves in the driver's seat with a clinical 5-2 win over OLAK last week. The Technical Committee cleared OLAK player Nur Hrsikesa Murni to return to face UiTm but it was not enough to help the former champions keep up with the fiery title challengers.

With their latest loss, OLAK are out of the contention. UiTM can clinch the title if they do not drop points in the final two matches against Selangor Sikh & Selangor Polis. Should UiTM falter, then RAMD will need only a win against OLAK on Thursday night to steal the title away.

The quarterfinals will be played on Dec 8 & 9 and the semifinals on Dec 15 & 16, while the final is slated for Dec 20. Meanwhile, in the Division Two RAMD Juniors were crowned champions last weekend without even having to break a drop of sweat.

Their nearest nemesis, SIA, faltered as they fell to an unexpected defeat to Synergy to see their titles hopes go up in smoke and disappear right before their eyes.

SIA needed a win to keep up pressure on table toppers RAMD Juniors but they fell behind as early as the third minute as Synergy’s S. Kumaresan finished off a scintillating move to give Synergy the lead. SIA fought back but Synergy goalkeeper Muhammad Fareez Farid was in top form as he foiled every shot that looked a sure goal.

To rub salt to the wound, Synergy increased their lead in the 17th minute via a penalty corner converted by Ashvinderjeet Singh. SIA gave themselves some hope of salvaging something when they pulled one back through Abdul Rasyid Ridzwan ten minutes before half-time.

But instead, Synergy went into the interval 3-1 up with a penalty corner conversion by Manpreet Singh in the 33rd minute. Ironically, it was the birthday boy Kumaresan who killed off the game when he grabbed his brace by hammering the fourth goal in the dying minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Trophies has landed

One of the biggest challenges in a league is consistency. Almost like running a marathon you stick to the pace, the rhythm despite attempts by people to destabilize, to challenge, to have envy is all norm we jsut got to live with it and move on forward

We pick battles we can fight and WIN we deflect situation that are not worth of a fight.

Today I can see the finish line but we must not let our slack down, it is at these times we must be stronger, work harder and smarter.

What we have achieved up to now wont mean a thing if we do not reach the finish line.. all the good press coveraged form Malay Mail and The Star, the support from sponsors like Mercian & Milo, the support from state bodies like MSN, MPK and most importantly the hard work of the guys on the field.... wont mean a thing if we drop.

I was so motivated to have the challenge trophy in place today. 69 cm tall. Yes 69 cm

Selangor Hockey League: SIA make it to the top

Selangor Hockey League: SIA make it to the top

This press coverage is a result of hard work put in by people who love the game. No politics not cliques. Good hard work

Well done guys

Half Way Mark - Hockey League

Well we have reached the halfway mark of the league on the Nov 5th weekend, as we were paying the allowances I decided to write a note to all the officials..

I am a hard headed SOB if I wanna be and I am driven to achieve goals and targets. We have a lot riding on this league, confidence, credibility, respect, point to prove and unfortunately there are more people within the organization who rather see you fall them make them selves look good.

It does not take much to roll you sleeves and walk into the field and help out instead of being present for photo taking opportunities. I am blessed coz the No 2 shares the same mentality with me and is equally driven. At the same time we have to ask question what about the rest at the top> Any one want to turn padang?

All this I shield and deflect from the people running the show.

What I am proud of it is not alone man show, there is an equally hard, responsible team and there is dedication. Being where we are doing what we doing after a long lapse take a lot out of you. It takes a lot out of me in all aspect but I am determined to see the finish line at the set date of DeC 20th. Come Dec 20th you will hear the name of this league

Back to the note . Why the note you asked? - Like is said I been driving the official hard, strict stern and making them toe the line coz all it takes is one screw up to bring bad publicity. I always told them people dun remember good things they read in the press but they will remember bad things they read for along time.

Work hard Play hard... not like I could take them out to a beer and show my appreciation so I wrote them a letter in my capacity and personally thank each and everyone and motivate them for the remainder of the league

Tine flies

Time flies.. it sure does... out of the blue in my MSN drops an offline message of a news paper link to The Star Metro. I clicked on it coz it was from a trusted source. Lo behold I was greeted to this picture and the corresponding article.

There a little kid dressed to the max acting her heart out in front of all the proud parents and it was wonderful to see a coverage in the press. There were no prizes for guess who was in the picture as I has received an MMS of the little girl in the costume and instantly could relate to her. I know this kid directly and indirectly since she was born and she is a little darling... a little princess that from to time I have chatted on the phone who would recite her nursery rhymes to me. mmmmm good times

Enjoy

Well I am back and still busy

Gosh I been away from blogging too long... I have taken up more responsibilities and more task and trying to juggle with in that all is a crazy thing but somehow I seem to be liking it and it keep me occupied.

I am not sure if it is the challenge or the ability to savour the moment that drives me, but I try to keep my feet on the ground and remind myself of the Sword of Damocles

I have a responsibility to keep doing what I sam doing so long I been given the trust and task. Many do not seem to understand, I am kind of a guy that dont belive for one second in Auto-Cruise, which for the outside world it seem so easy.. hence the legend of the Sword of Damocles

So what is this legend about... Cicero tells the story of the Sword of Damocles in his Tusculan Disputations. The story is based on a legend about the Syracusan tyrant Dionysius II and the fawning Damocles, who called Dionysius the most fortunate person ever. Dionysius offered him the opportunity to try out his lucky life, and Damocles readily agreed. Amid all the gold and luxuries that Damocles could enjoy, there was a sharp sword hanging from a slender thread (and in imminent danger of dropping) above Damocles' head. Damocles quickly wished to go back to his less fortunate life.

So for now its gonna be a crazy week. Mon - Petronas & Technical Meetings.. Tues - Licensing. Wed & Thur - Matches in Pandamaran Fri- Prep Sat - Umpires Exams & Jnr Vadai time , Sun - VIP visits to the Stadium.... dang there goes the week

OLAK went on a scoring spree and notched a convincing 8-0 win over Selangor Police in a Division One match of the Selangor Hockey League at the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium in Klang.

The match was abandoned at half-time as several players from Selangor Police were injured and unable to continue the match. Selangor Police started the match with 11 players but three players were injured midway of the first half. They were reduced to eight players. Before the break another player was also not able to play due to injuries.

According to competition rules, a team must have a minimum eight players and Selangor did not have any reserves to resume the match. Deputy organizing chairman P. Kuganesan said Selangor Police apologised for not being able to play in the second half.

“There was a miscommunication between the officials and players. We have accepted their apology in good faith.”

“We expect them to come fully prepared for their forthcoming matches. But the match will stand,’’ said Kuganesan. R. Dinesh scored an hattrick for Olak while Abdullah Sani Abu and K. Satsih scored a brace each and R. Pragesh was on target once.

In other Division One matches, Petaling Jaya City Council and RAMD played to a 3-3 draw while UiTM edged JLJ 2-1.
RAMD Juniors scored a convincing 7-0 win over Prokeck 11-B in a Division Two match while Politeknik Shah Alam edged Synergy HC 3-2; IIUM Mustang defeated PSKPP 2-1 and Selangor Indian Association (SIA) upstaged IIUM Staff 4-2.

closer closer

in about 30 hours the Selangor League will being!!!!

there is a lot riding on this

its the pain

sometimes when you read professional footballers athletes or sports people in person sufferign injuries is waaaa even there got muscles. I had my fair share of muscular injuries during my playing days.

So when something major like this happen because i am playing a sport then I get worries. Yeah I broken away form my regular routine and have been pushing my self no no driving my self for hockey and amidst all this I been trying to get my body to cope with the work load and the rigors of hockey.

So officially I have soft tissue damage on my right leg behind my knee...some mumbo-kjumbo tendon name and I have been told to take it easy. Initially when it struck I was imagining the worst case scenario coz back in my playing days I took a pretty hard knock where surgery was an option. This was a long the same lines so in a way it was a relief to knowit was not as bad as I expected.

I think its time to have more fermented wheat

Speed : Police Officer Jack mode - Hockey Style

Its time kick ass and switch on turbo mode, I am 2 days away from a flurry of meetings and activities and a week away from the start of the league.

After being in MHF or rather being away from MHF for a long time I feel kind of rusty, not like that have been falling head over heel in trying to support us with materials or soft copies of information, having to re-type, compile and re-edit and put together a 40 page handbook is no easy task.

If one must move forward he must be prepared to challenge the present system, daring to make changes and motivate other to move forward with him. Only then can progression take place.

In the end we will all be judged by what we try to accomplish.

Fro the record : People remember bad things more then good things

So here are the upcoming activities

1. Sept 26th 4pm- 8pm - Technical Seminar (Close Door)
2. Sept 27th 8am - Umpires Fitness Test (Closed Door)
3. Sept 27th 9.30am - Umpires Briefing (Closed Door)
4. Sept 27th 10.30am – Technical Briefing (Closed Door)
5. Technical Committee Meeting 2.00pm (Closed Door)
6. Team Managers Meeting 4.00pm
7. Oct 3 2009 3.30pm – Opening Match of the League

A poem bout responsibility

There was a most important job that needed to be done,
And no reason not to do it, there was absolutely none.
But in vital matters such as this, the thing you have to ask
Is who exactly will it be who'll carry out the task?

Anybody could have told you that everybody knew
That this was something somebody would surely have to do.
Nobody was unwilling; anybody had the ability.
But nobody believed that it was their responsibility.

It seemed to be a job that anybody could have done,
If anybody thought he was supposed to be the one.
But since everybody recognised that anybody could,
Everybody took for granted that somebody would.

But nobody told anybody that we are aware of,
That he would be in charge of seeing it was taken care of.
And nobody took it on himself to follow through,
And do what everybody thought that somebody would do.

When what everybody needed so did not get done at all,
Everybody was complaining that somebody dropped the ball.
Anybody then could see it was an awful crying shame,
And everybody looked around for somebody to blame.

Somebody should have done the job
And Everybody should have,
But in the end Nobody did
What Anybody could have.

Charles Osgood

Its Friday - my least favourite subject ? Hockey

3 days to go - crunch time

In 3 days this is where we are

Soft launch of webpage
Plenary meeting of the League
Competition Committee
Training of Technical Officials
Formalization of Budget

Well done Vadai!!!

Well what can I say, push come to shove we are here at this juncture, some may find it a culture shock, but we are what we make ourselves to be.

Hockey in Malaysia, its a big picture that no one has an actual grasp. Shocking ain't it but that the actual position we are in. There is no master plan, there is no direction, there is absolutely nothing.

Give each state a piece of paper and break it down to 2 columns, their achievements, and their goals & objectives, they will struggle to fill it. In hockey, we have resigned ourselves to lifestyle that is more 'tidak-apa' then actual care, an orientation that is more noise oriented then object driven, we have allowed this system to sink in and become the norm.

The only way to change is to start at the ground level. Each state given targets, simple one, 1 tournament/league/competition for each age bracket. Under 12, Under 16 and Open. If you work hard to achieve this then you find the rest will fall in place. No one will place a bet on a dying horse!!

When I walked into an AGM/BGM, as I faithfully do meeting after meeting raising concern and trying to make a change, people do not want me in (not coz I am prefect contrary I am NOT perfect, I am the most thick headed, hot tempered, result driven, talk a lot, buggers you gonna get in and out of the hockey field) but I bring change. So what have I done since I was have been on board is due to the effort put in a small bunch of dedicated people fighting against the system, within the system and against traditional set accepted standard of condut and administration.

Yup its RUST, I could sure use a few more helping hands. Anyone interested

Trouble in the night ..

the darkness falls on my room in many ways
i feel trapped under the sheets, its a suffocating feeling
quite extrodinary but i put my feelings at bay
motionless i start to panic and edge with fright
there is a distint coldness in the night
some people create their own theories
agree is but to disagree
an annoymos person enters my domain
but doesnt intend to harm or create pain
is this thing in search of good or bad
or is it that ive gone slightly mad
from inside im struggling
from the outside im welcoming

Press Conference

Honestly I have never handle a press conference before, I mean I have organized one but let the big boys field the question, but when an ice breaking dinner for the new committee was turned into a springboard to a full blown press conference it was indeed a rush.

Being the deputy chairman flanked by my chairman and sit under the glaring lights was very unnerving, in his capacity he has handled too many PC but for me was a 1st.

So he calls me at 5.30pm, bro I have decide to invite a few press people to our ice breaking so we can talk about our plans and ideas etc etc. I was like!!!!!!

So what is a press conference if we do not have objectives, goals and key point to talk about, I had 90 minutes to turn this around, got my 5 talking points, one major future goal, printed out pictures and soft copies for any one who wanted a set.

There was actually a lot of people from the print media, The Star, NST, RTM and the other dialies. I actually enjoyed the limelight, the ability to take question although my bahasa was rusty it was a good PC.

My Chairman being seasoned in this loved the materials I had prepared and we went forward with it.

Razak Cup

Everyone has got their 2 cents about Razak Cup, for the uninformed, this is the Premier Tournament of the country, similar to the Malaysia Cup of Football, so why are we down so low?

I have found a new corner for me self in tun Razak Stadium watching the match on my own. It is nice to be out of the politics and limelight and just be what we were meant to... hockey lovers.

There is no love for Razak Cup, there is no passion, no build-up, no drive from top-to-bottom for the tournament. A lot of state just pick a bunch and take part. Maybe thats whats wrong. Small step I say, let see what chancge I can do together in my state. Why state? Coz I given up on the national body, all talk no action.

Interesting Friday & Reunions

On the back foot because of indiscipline and irresponsible offical who and whims and fancy can make documents be misplaced my drive for Selangor Hockey took a back foot. After securing sponsors for web pages making it self funded I was faced with more red tape by @#!@#$!. My plan was to soft launch the page by Sunday morning!!!

After more consultations with my internet frens on how to go forward, frustrated enough more so being a Friday a lovely lady from Germany posted on face book how good beer is for bones... after all one does not need an excuse to drink but it was a well worth incentive.

So Off I landed in HRC for my regular discussion and debates and my favourite pint. Being the last day before the fasting month, I was joined by many regulars and it was a nice get together.

After that was a hop over to Oswego where I had not visits over 6 weeks. YES YES 6 weeks, an old friend was down from Penang with another in tow. This what happen when you have hardly 24 hours notice lol. This is a lady that almost without fail will send Junior Vadai gifts for Deepavali and other occasions. It was a refreshing to hear from her.

She and her friend had to do their office provisioning but we manage to squeeze some time together. So it was off to creasian with M busy with her camera taking pictures of me and A and a competition between the 2 worst pool players, Me and M went toe to toe with incredible never to be seen shots, white ball being pocketed, mis cue until Jason was having a heart ache watching. Well it all fun.

Nevertheless the enjoy Creasian and especially the ambiance and FOOD.

As we were playing pool, then landed Mr & Mrs G.Singh, this became a 5 some more chit chat and suddenly plans were changed.

All I know from a night ending bak-kut-teh it was to a Punjabi dance floor the kind of "watch-girls-dance-pay-10bucks-if-you-like- how-they-dance" to a full Punjabi dance bangra pub. gosh almighty, I was home safe early in the morning but what I heard from G that went home only at 6!!!! Imagine that. Thank god I knew when to call it quits

Overall in summary is it was worth it catching up, it was nice to share idea, see new things, I had not been in the KL scene in a long time so it was good company, nice appreciation and lots of bites lol

Back to work lol

M sorry but we seem to be spiraling out of control in terms of manners, patience and good behavior. All of them seem to have gone to the dogs, we do not have courtesy, we do not have manners and what ever steps taken to rebuff them you get an arrogant, insensitive and crude remark.

Be it from que cutting, parking in a disable lots, to stupid insensitive behaviors in supermarkets and life threatening behaviors like beating red lights, que jumping at traffic lights.

How many times have you found a lane turing left or right becomes 2 or 3 lanes especially at a traffic light.

The list goes on...

BIL Graduates

Graduation is a funny thing and something we celebrate in many mean and ways, but lately it becomes a money making event for many institutes and universities, especially the overseas ones, starting at a minimum RM100 per entry.

After all for some, you only graduate once. So my BIL is on his way to become a DOC and they had the local 'graduation' then there was photo taking session, no one was more excited then Junior Vadai beaming with pride that his 'mama' is back and what else got photographs to pose for.

But I alwayss love taking photos of Junior Vadai especially spontaneous ones

Ramalingam Trophy Review

What a lovely event it was, ran by the clock, good support... every loved the 8-a-side format, there was lovely support from the family of the Late K.Ramalingam and the 16 teams that came together to make it happen. The main core was 4 people with a strong support from our Deputy President, this I kid you not, he is a very hands on guy despite his busy schedule. Overall with the lucky draws and excitign matches it was a flying success

I better let the pics speak for themselves

for the record and from the bottom of my heart I want to extend a thank to Jaap who continuously willing to post news about Selangor Hockey on the web and ever willing to accommodate us.
