Good Fren, Close Fren? Wats the difference?

My fren Cathy Queen has a blog, so when I get an sms from her asking me to describe good friends and close friends, I spent the night thinking what the heck, sound like a topic for a blog, so I researched and googled tried to get an answer but there is no actual definition that can provide actual justice to it.

Friendship isn't always easily described. The Eskimos, they say, have a hundred different words for snow. Unfortunately, the English language isn't quite as dynamic, though it has vast vocab to differentiate meaning and it has a vast vocab to say the same meaning different ways

Instead of different words, however, we're stuck with simple adjectives. Close friend. Good Friend. Best friend. Childhood friend. Intimate friend. Trusted friend. Beloved friend. The irony is no matter whether you use adjectives or different words, few could deny the nearly infinite meaning in such a simple word.

Friends are special people. We can't pick our family, we are saddled with what we got, no matter good or bad. Society and public (and often our own conscience) dictate how we select a single mate, but our friends can be as diverse and infinite as the adjectives we choose. Our friends, in a very real sense, reflect the choices we make in life.

If you have a graph, and you position each person on the ranking of trust, closeness, hanging out, bonding, and any other criteria that you see fit and I will guarantee only two things, there is not a singular person who will score in every department and you will not have 2 identical friends.

We place our friends differently and at different levels because we directly and indirectly choose to do so. Some may accept some don't but its a working relationship. So my answer is a good friend is I can depend on and a close friend is a level higher. What you think?

In parting - "Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow grow, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation."
